Bacterial contamination of water sources for domestic use in JOS and environs

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to assess and examine water bodies in Jos, Plateau State for bacterial contamination. Methods: A total ninety four (90) samples were collected aseptically from different sources (stream, well, borehole, tap, dam, storage tanks vendors) locations investigated their contaminants using Most Probable Number Technique (MPN). Structured questionnaires used obtain information on location, depth, sanitary condition closeness septic tanks. isolates present identified based morphology biochemical characteristics. Total count determined pour plate technique coliform by (MPN) method. Results: From T-Test result mean all seven investigated, (ST) found be least contaminated followed Tap (TW) while stream (STR) had highest rate contamination with MPN index 300/100 ml. However, borehole 6 (BW6) among 7/10 range 7/100 ml BH6 STR7 respectively viable ranged 1.0 × 102 3.3 103. characterized as Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus aureus mirabilis. results obtained analysed SPSS Version 21.
